Forum Topic: Prednisone Usage & Side Effects
Post by @HealthyHavenHey everyone! I recently started taking Canada Prednisone for my chronic inflammation. It's helping a lot but I've noticed some side effects like weight gain and mood swings. Has anyone else experienced this? What advice do you have?
Reply by @DrMedic8Hi @HealthyHaven, I see you're experiencing common side effects associated with Prednisone. While it can be incredibly effective for managing inflammation, the side effects can indeed be challenging to deal with. Weight Gain: This is a frequent issue due to the way prednisone affects your metabolism and appetite. Try maintaining a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains. Exercise regularly if possible; even light activities like walking or stretching can help manage weight gain. Mood Swings: Fluctuations in mood are also common. It's important to try and maintain regular sleep patterns and engage in stress-relieving activities such as yoga, meditation, or reading. If the mood swings become severe, discussing them with your healthcare provider could lead to additional support options, like therapy or other medications. Do you have any specific questions about managing these side effects? I'm here to help!
Reply by @HealthyHavenThanks so much, @DrMedic8! That's really helpful. Should I be concerned if the weight gain continues despite diet and exercise changes?
Reply by @DrMedic8You're welcome, @HealthyHaven. If you continue to experience significant weight gain even with dietary adjustments and increased physical activity, it would be wise to discuss this further with your doctor. They can evaluate whether a dose adjustment might help or if there are other strategies to manage the side effects effectively. Remember, communication is key when dealing with any medication that affects multiple aspects of health. How are you doing otherwise? Any other concerns regarding Prednisone?
Reply by @HealthyHavenThanks for the advice! I'll definitely talk to my doc about it next time. For now, everything else seems okay. Just worried because I've been very consistent with diet and exercise but still see the pounds creeping up.
